I had the same problem with them using my container plants as their litter box. I like a product called REPELL which comes in spray and pellet form. It stinks when you first apply it but isn’t harmful and the scent fades quickly. You can get it at local home improvement stores and the Fosters Smith catalog (and on-line) has other natural products that accomplish the same thing if you can’t find REPELL.

I bought a sand box for my son last year and I can’t seem to keep the bugs out of it. Its a plastic crab and has a lid thats put on when he’s not playing in it but the bugs still seem to get in there. Is there a way I can keep them out?

I went out to play w/ my 1 yr old & 3 yr old in the sandbox yesterday and was completely creeped out by the number of bugs I found while digging around in the dirt. There ants and earwigs and some other sort of very tiny beetle or something. I don’t the bugs to hurt one of my children & I don’t want them to be carried inadvertantly back into the house.
